Match Report - 15 Jan 2011, Ross High Rugby Football Club 1st XV lost to Marr RFC
ROSS HIGH - 14
MARR - 29
ROSS High, stuck firmly at the bottom of National 3, would have been dismissed by many as no-hopers ahead of Saturday’s clash with runaway league leaders Marr, who look odds-on for promotion.
But clearly nobody had told the Tranent side. The Ross players had been sitting on the sidelines for 70 days prior to the game and were desperate to get back into action and show what they could do.
Facing a side flying in the league and high on confidence, Ross High gave as good as they got and refused to let Marr run away with it.
Ross High gave a credible performance against top team Marr
Indeed, substitute backs Stuart Ross and Lee Waterston briefly caused a real scare in the Marr ranks after both bagged tries after coming off the bench, winger Paul Davis converting on both occasions.
However, in the end Marr were able to ride out the storm and hold on to win, further cementing their place as the team to beat in the league.
Ross High can hold their heads high after their brave, battling performance but nevertheless the fact remains that they are rapidly running out of time to mount a bid to escape the drop.
With 11 points now separating them from 11th-placed Hawick Linden, Ross High are in dire need of their first win of the season and there is no better time to start than tomorrow (Saturday), when rivals Preston Lodge visit.
PL dominated Ross High in a one-sided encounter in October, when the Tranent team could not muster a single point, and they will be desperate for revenge in round two.
