Hawick Linden: 33

Conversions: R. Hook x2
As a result of the windy weather conditions this fixture was always going to be a close fought game with frequent battles up front in rucks, mauls and set pieces. From the start Linden came out firing and after some hard defence on both sides linden broke the deadlock with a score. However High replied not long after, when R. Hook kicked through after some sloppy play from linden and Ashurst picked up to score. R. Hook converted from the sideline, a great effort when considering the weather conditions.
However Linden continued to pressurise Ross High up front until their scrum half burst through the middle of the forwards defence at a ruck, sprinting through to score. High once again fought back well to within 5 metres of the Hawick line before shipping it out to the backs, after some slick passing R. Hook scored in the corner. However linden continued to dominate scrums and the breakdowns, allowing for their backs to receive decent ball. Their centre capitalised breaking through Ross Highs line because of slack tackling, to run in for another score. Continuing to contest fiercely at the breakdown linden created many chances, one of which was executed in the forwards with some good ball carrying at the fringes leading to another score before the half.
After the half Ross High upped the ante, when in possession the backs kicked for good territory with the wind whilst forwards started to disrupt linden play through good work from Miller, Stoddart and Docherty. It was a physical encounter well into the second half which caused numerous injuries on both sides. All three of High’s replacements Cunningham, McDonald and Robinson were used.
The fact that hooker Steven Henderson was unfairly sent to the bin did not improve Highs situation, however with 14 men High dug deep until Henderson rejoined the game. Not long after Strachan picked at the back of a scrum offloading to Hughes who then put centre Bailie into a gap to score under the posts, R. Hook converted. Just as it looked like High were getting back into the game Hawick made a break that put the home team back on its own try line, though there was some good try saving tackles eventually the linden scrum half dived over.
With the game nearing its conclusion, Ross High rallied once again. From a broken scrum on the half No. 8 Ryan Strachan picked and sprinted through a gap to score on the last play of the game. As a result the home side salvaged a badly needed try bonus point however it was a game the home side should have won.
Now going into the next game against Trinity who High beat in an earlier encounter of the season the pressure is on to get a result before the Xmas break.
