Match Report - 15 Sep 2012, Ross High Rugby Football Club 1st XV lost to Dalkeith RFC
Dalkeith RFC 41 v 6 Ross High RFC
ROSS High began the match under severe pressure from a rampant Dalkeith side on Saturday.
The visitors' back row were all over the place in an attempt to stem the flow of Dalkeith possession, and though they looked to be offside on numerous occasions the referee seemed happy to ignore the home team's shouts.
Dalkeith opened the scoring when Whitson drove through several defenders before touching down for five points.
Midway through the first half Dalkeith scored again as Ramsay slipped a lovely ball to Andy Hamilton who ran into the corner to score. Smith converted the try for a 12-0 lead to the home team.
Ross High hit back with a disputed penalty, but Dalkeith scored their third try and a conversion for a 19-3 advantage. Montgomery scored his second touchdown of the game as Dalkeith increased their lead to 24-3 before half-time.
Dalkeith start the second half the brighter and had what looked like a good score chalked off by the officials. An injury to a Ross High front row player then resulted in scrums being uncontested for the remainder of the match.
However, the home side remained dominant and a good break by Ramsay released Smith who then fed Duke for a score near the posts. Smith converts to make it 31-3.
The uncontested scrum position allowed High a much cleaner ball and to monopolise the possession for a while without really threatening the home line. A second penalty score for Ross High and a further two tries for Dalkeith brought the score to 41-6.
